Sequences VI – concept

Sequences VI introduces events and exhibitions that will express the humdrum and drama of everyday life. The work of the honorary artist, Gretar Reynisson, sets the tone for the festival. His intricate series of daily artistic gestures suggests a bond between art and life where order and chance coexist in perpetual flux. In the last few years an academic approach has engrossed the Reykjavik art scene with numerous projects associated with philosophy, science and research. Sequences VI resists the surge of logic and reason into art by reflecting the constant uncertainties of the everyday. A sense for the personal will be brought to light in the choice of venues for the festival, setting it in intimate spaces, in homes, artist studios, hotel rooms and in residential areas. Triumphs and setbacks in the emotional life, the longing for beauty, boredom and epiphany, the fear of time slipping away and the search for art in our day-to-day routine––these are all qualities that will characterize the upcoming art festival.
