THE DEATH SHOW, is Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson´s contribution to Sequences VII and one that probably most directly corresponded to the curatorial outline of this years edition. The story is set in Amsterdam and took guests to various spaces in Hótel Holt.
Stymir invited guests to daily performances, and attracted around 200 guests. The performance was very well received indeed and clearly one of the highlights of this years Sequences according to coverage in international press, including Artforum, Kunsten.nu, Frieze, Kunstforum and W Magazine who described it so as
“One of the best performances we’ve seen all year might be Styrmir Orn Gudmundsson’s “The Death Show,” in the lobby of the Hotel Holt, a midcentury gem touting Iceland’s largest collection of historical art. Blending performance and painting, the post-apocalyptic weirdo (in the best sense of that word) acted out a piece involving Tostoyan soliloquys, a death contract with an unseen Creator, and a visit from a Vishnu-like goddess.”
