The Dough Warrior has appeared in many of Søren Dahlgaard´s performances throughout his carrier. In those works he explores different painting techniques. Portrait Painting by the Dough Warrior is a performance piece that takes on one tradition in the history of art challenged by the warrior who himself is challenged by his own armor.
Søren Dahlgaard graduated from Slade School of Fine Arts, London. In his work, method is challenged through narrative. His work is conceptual and is strongly linked to post-war Japanese performance art – especially the ground breaking Gutai group, the New York avant-garde movement of the 1960’s as well as land art from the 1970’s. He incorporates a type of understated slapstick in his work. This is mostly apparent in his performances and staged photograph series. Visually he draws from the aesthetics of minimalism.
