Born in 1983 in Istanbul, Turkey Algün-Ringborg studied at Sabancı University, Istanbul, 2002–2007 and at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, Sweden from where she got her MFA in 2012. She lives in Stockholm.
Algün-Ringborg examines the ways in which the private and the individual copes with more general notions such as nationality, borders, translation, bureaucracy and home. Her works derive from found materials or existing structures that she complicates with her own personal narrative or that of real or fictional others. She compiles information into lists, books, piles and archives, as if attempting to bring order to the chaos that each person will encounter when correlating with different social structures. Her works on display reflect an examination into our physical presence, both in the fleeting moment and in the relentless scrutiny of time, in solitude and in public.
