Sequences honorary artist

  • Rúrí

For the third Sequences real-time art festival, October 11th – 17th 2008, the curatorial board has decided to acknowledge renowned artists for their notable contribution to real-time art mediums. It is our privilege to present the Icelandic artist Rúrí as Sequences 2008 honorary artist.

Rúrí has always worked in various art forms and mediums. She has been a dynamic force in the Icelandic art scene, exhibited all over the world and was Iceland’s contribution to the Venice Biennale in 2003.

For Sequences 2008 Rúrí will present Vocal IV in collaboration with musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. Vocal IV is an elaborate performance with diverse elements- video, music, sound art, waterfall swish, nature sounds and texts from the international discussion that Rúrí has collected about water.

This is the first time Rúrí has worked with a composer for a performance. Together Rúri and Jóhann have teamed up with an Icelandic choir, Matthias Hemstock, percussionist player, and a group of electric guitar players to create a vast soundscape.

The performance will take place in the Reykjavik Art Museum, Harbour house, on October 12th.
